Allergic Conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the conjunctiva of the eye which is the layer of tissue which lines the front part of the eyeball (the white part of the eye) and the inside of the eyelids. While conjunctivitis can be caused by bacteria, virus, or chemical irritation, allergic conjunctivitis is caused by allergies.
According to ASCIA (2019), symptoms may include:
- Redness in both eyes.
- Itching and burning of both the eye and surrounding tissues.
- Watery discharge, often accompanied by acute discomfort in bright sunlight light (photophobia).
- The conjunctiva itself may become very swollen and may interfere with clarity of vision.
These symptoms can be perennial in nature (all year long) or seasonal (present in various seasons).
At Allergy First we can help you identify the allergic triggers, treat the symptoms, and desensitize against the allergies which cause allergic conjunctivitis.
